Public programs, courses, events, and campus activities focus on Jewish immigration to New York, and address contemporary issues including Jewish philanthropy, business ethics, politics, identity, continuity, and the changing face of American Jewry.

The JSC is dedicated to teaching the Baruch community and public about the history and experiences of Jews in America, specifically in New York City. The Sandra Kahn Wasserman Jewish Studies Center (JSC) at Baruch College reflects the legacy and heritage of the college, its tradition of educating New York City’s immigrants, its diverse population, and its special relationship to and place within Manhattan. WHERE: Baruch College Performing Arts Center Reception at 7:00 p.m. A recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship, Ladin holds the David and Ruth Gottesman Chair in English at Yeshiva University, and serves on the Board of Keshet, a national organization devoted to full inclusion of LGTBQ Jews in the Jewish world. Her work has been published in American Poetry Review, Southern Review, Parnassus: Poetry in Review, Writer’s Digest, Lavender Review and Bloom. Ladin is also the author of six books of poetry, including Forward Fives award winner Coming to Life and Lambda Literary Award finalist Transmigration. Ladin was named to the 2012 Forward 50 list of influential or courageous American Jews. Her memoir of gender transition, Through the Door of Life: A Jewish Journey Between Genders, was a finalist for a 2012 National Jewish Book Award and the winner of a Forward Fives award. Joy Ladin’s return to Yeshiva University as a woman after receiving tenure as a man made her the first openly transgender employee of an Orthodox Jewish institution, and made page-3 news in the New York Post.
